The Institute for Nonprofits Hosts Inaugural COMx Event
Embracing its mission to convene and facilitate opportunities that build community, on May 23, 2016 the Institute for Nonprofits co-hosted their inaugural COMx event with their newest partner, Loading Dock Raleigh, the area’s newest collaborative work space. The theme of the event was “Building Community through Creative Collisions.” The event featured diverse speakers: Aly Khalifa, CEO and founder of LYF shoes, and co-founder and director of innovation at Design Box explained his innovative approach to making shoes that follow a “closed loop” economic consumer cycle. Amber Smith, Executive Director of Activate Good, focused on the power of volunteerism for economic development and service to our community’s most pressing needs. Megg Rader, Executive Director of Alliance Medical Ministries showcased her enterprise that provides access to quality healthcare to vulnerable populations. The facilitator of the event, Melissa Carrier, the Social Entrepreneur in Residence for the Institute for Nonprofits, inspired thoughtful follow-up questions, and paved the way for the most important part of the event: networking with over 60 guests inclusive of students, business and nonprofit leaders, government and community leaders, university faculty, B-Corp and other social enterprises, and more! Look for creative collisions through more COMx events!
